Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) - Code of Conduct

Part 1

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to encourage fair, ethical treatment of all persons and organizations involved with squash in Sri Lanka. All persons participating in Sri Lanka Squash activities will agree to abide by this Sri Lanka Squash- Code of Conduct and acknowledge that any breach of the Code of Conduct, or any part of it, may result in disciplinary action.

  • As an Affiliate or a player registered under Sri Lanka Squash you should meet the following requirements with regards to your conduct:
    • Be professional in, and accept responsibility for, your actions.
    • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.
    • Promote responsible health, safety and well-being of all members of the Sri Lanka squash community.
    • Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others.
    • Be a positive role model and ensure my behavior is positive and supportive.
    • Make a commitment to providing quality service and performance.
    • Show concern and caution towards others who may be sick or injured.
    • Promote positive interests of squash.
    • Be aware of, and operate within all standards, rules, regulations and policies of Sri Lanka Squash , Asian Squash Federation and the World Squash Federation.
    • Understand the possible consequences of breaching the Sri Lanka Squash Code of Conduct.
    • Immediately report any breaches of Sri Lanka Squash members to the appropriate authority.
    • Never act in any way (including providing comments to any media or website) that may bring disrepute or disgrace to Sri Lanka Squash members, its stakeholders and / or its sponsors, potential sponsors and / or partners
    • Refrain from any form of abuse, harassment, discrimination or victimization towards others.
    • Refrain from using any obscene language or gestures.
    • Reject corruption, drugs and other dangers (including sports betting and gambling) to our sport

    Sri Lanka Squash expects all affiliated, clubs, organizations, employees, members, referees, administrators, coaches, players, parents / guardians and supporters of Sri Lanka Squash to abide by this Code of Conduct that upholds the principles and values of Sri Lanka Squash and the Sri Lanka Squash Member Protection Policy. Members should recognize that at all times; they have a duty of care to all Sri Lanka Squash members.

  • In addition,

    Administrators will:
    • Foster a collaborative approach to following the Code of Conduct.
    • Ensure that everyone involved in squash emphasizes fair play.
    • Be responsible for the overall welfare and well-being of all members and officials when travelling as a team.
  • Squash SLS Code of Conduct Coaches will:
    • Follow the Sri Lanka Squash Code of Ethics in its entirety
  • Officials will:
    • Conduct themselves in a way that is ethically and morally beyond reproach.
    • Officiate all matches in a fair, objective and consistent manner that ensures spectator enjoyment and player safety.
    • Condemn unsporting behavior and promote respect for all players.
    • Know the rules of the game and their interpretations thoroughly.
    • Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating.
    • Support fellow officials and grant players and coaches’ dignity and self-respect.
  • Parents / Guardians will:
    • Encourage children to participate for their enjoyment and not force them.
    • Support children to always play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence
    • Remember that children learn best by example and focus on their efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
    • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition.
    • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
    • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
    • Show appreciation for all coaches, officials and administrators.
    • Always play by the rules and play to win but play fair.
    • Respect the decisions of all officials and cooperate with fellow players, coaches and administrators.
    • Display modesty in victory and accept defeat with dignity.
    • Thank the opposition and officials at the end of the match.
    • Comply with all training, competition and behavior requirements.

Part 2

Any breach of this Code of Conduct, or persistent violations of any aspect of the Code of Conduct, will be dealt by Disciplinary committee of Sri Lanka Squash.


Any breach of the code of conduct could be brought to the notice of the Disciplinary committee by any party covered in this document with valid evidence and an inquiry will be conducted by the Disciplinary Committee regard to same and appropriate Disciplinary action will be taken


Disciplinary Actions: These disciplinary actions will be imposed in a manner commensurate with their offense and in accordance with the below qualifications of the severity of their disruption or threat

  • 1. Verbal warning issued by Sri Lanka Squash.
  • 2. Written warning issued by Lanka Squash.
  • 3. Suspension or immediate ejection from a Tournament and/or suspension for a period of time ranging up to two weeks, issued by Sri Lanka Squash.
  • 4. Suspension from multiple tournaments and/or suspension for a period of time ranging up to 3 months, issued by a Sri Lanka Squash.
  • 5. Suspension for 1 year or more up to lifetime suspension, issued by Sri lanka Squash.

Examples of Minor Infractions include but are not limited to:


  • A single instance of disrespectful language or actions directed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official, Sri Lanka Squash staff member or any other attendee.
  • A single occurrence of excessive tardiness or absenteeism for a Sri Lanka Squash event at which ones presence is obligatory .
  • A single occurrence of non-compliance with the policies and rules set forth by Sri Lanka Squash.

Major Infraction:


  • A Major Infraction will result in disciplinary actions involving suspension from a single event, multiple events, a season or multiple seasons. A Major Infraction is defined as repeated minor infraction or a single occurrence or disturbance of an event in which a threat has been brought upon any coach, parent, player, participant, official, Sri Lanka Squash staff member or any other attendee.
  • These threats or actions if deemed sufficiently damaging to the event or sport gives Sri Lanka Squash or the event organizers the right to immediate action in accordance with any and all disciplinary actions as outlined in the “Code of Conduct”.

Examples of Major infractions include but are not limited to:


  • Multiple reported instances of disrespectful language or actions directed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official, Sri Lanka Squash staff member or any other attendee.
  • A threat or act of violence or assault, sexual or otherwise, against any coach, parent, player, participant, official, Sri Lanka Squash staff member or any other attendee .
