CRITIRIA FOR APPOINTMENT OF NATIONAL SELECTORS

1. ROLE AND APPOINTMENT OF NATIONAL SELECTION COMMITTEE

  • 1.1: Role of National Selectors: The principal role of the National Selection Committee is to select teams to represent Sri Lanka that will:
    • Maximize Sri Lanka’s chances of winning each game or series; and
    • Guarantee the long-term success of Sri Lankan Squash
  • 1.2: Appointment of National Selectors: The EXCO members of SLS are responsible for the appointment of National Selectors.The composition of the National Selection committee shall be as follows where the total of below mentioned positions will be not more than 10.
    • National Selection Committee-Chair
    • National Selection Committee- Secretary
    • National Selection Committee-members

    The EXCO members of SLS shall have the authority to nominate new selectors when the term of the existing members expire or when incumbents become unavailable. Nominations to the Selection Committee will be requested by SLS from registered bodies Affiliated to SLS. All nominations should be based on the criteria and qualifications listed below and the EXCO will have the right to select the appropriate and nominate to fill the required number of selectors to the National Selection Committee. If suitable candidates are not nominated by registered bodies Affiliated to SLS, the EXCO will have the right to nominate selectors by themselves to the National Selection Committee. National Selection committee members are appointed for a period of 02 years.

    All Nominations for appointment of new National selection committee members and subsequent changes to National Selection Committee due to unavailability of such members or due to not meeting expected duties as outlined below, will be selected and forwarded by EXCO of SLS to be approved by National Sports Council and Ministry of Sports.

  • 1.3: Qualifications of Selection Committee Members:
    National Selection Committee-Chair
    • Represented Sri Lanka in Squash as a Player, Coach, Manager at Senior National level.
    • Has outstanding administrative, organizational and communication skills with an unblemished previous record.
    • Should not be a representative of an Affiliate of SLS or a member of the EXCO of SLS.
    • Should not be engaged as a player in the National or Development training squads at present.
    • Should not be engaged as a coach at present in any capacity.
    • Should not be a parent, spouse, child or an immediate family member of any Senior or Junior National Player.
    • The committee chair will be appointed by the EXCO of SLS from the National selectors.
    National Selection Committee-members
    • Represented Sri Lanka in Squash as a Player, Coach, Manager at Junior or Senior National level.
    • Has outstanding administrative, organizational and communication skills an unblemished previous record.
    • Should not be a representative of an Affiliate of SLS or a member of the EXCO of SLS.
    • Should not be engaged as a player in the National or Development training squads at present.
    • Should not be engaged as a coach at present in any capacity.
    • Should not be a parent, spouse, child, spouse, child or an immediate family member of any Senior or Junior National Player.
  • 1.4: Responsibilities of National Selection Committee Secretary
    • Liaison between the Secretary of SLS , Tournament Committee Chairman of SLS or any other nominated EXCO member of SLS and National Selection Committee.
    • Prepare minutes of the National Selection Committee meetings and get it approved by National Selection Committee chair and members.
    • Communicate with players, coach and Team Manager
    • Maintain approved selection records and forward same to Secretary of SLS, Tournament Committee Chairman of SLS or any other nominated EXCO member of SLS.
    • The National Selection Committee Secretary will be appointed by the EXCO of SLS from the National selectors.
