Sri Lanka Squash to host 6K PSA International Championship in September 2025

The Reliance PSA Challenger Championship 2025 will be held in Sri Lanka at Ratmalana Air Force Squash Complex, from September 17th to 21st 2025, featuring prize money of $6,000 for men and $3,000 for women. The tournament is organized by Sri Lanka Squash under the guidance of Professional Squash Association (PSA) and sponsored by Reliance logistics . SLT – MOBITEL PEO TV and PEO SPORTS will serve as the official media partners for the championship.

 

This years Championship will see top International players from 11 countries taking part. Addeen Idrakie and Duncal Lee from Malaysia, Ravindu Laksiri from Sri Lanka, and Wailok To from Hong Kong are the top 4 seeds in the Mens Open Category while Anjali Sewmal from India, Chanithma Sinaly from Sri Lanka, Harleen Tan from Malaysia and Mona Tamer from Egypt are the top 4 seeds in Womens Open Category.

 

Known for his patient and tactical playing style, World no 84 and top seed in the tournament,the Malaysian National Champion in 2024 Addeen Idraike has being in full form this season capturing back-to-back titles on the PSA Tour by winning the Morrinsville Open in New Zealand and the Victorian Open in Australia this year so far. He has represented Malaysia at various prestigious events, including the Asian Games and South East Asian Games, contributing to team medals and competing in singles. He notably earned a bronze medal with the Malaysian team at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

 

World no 106 , Ravindu Laksiri from Sri Lanka is the 2nd seed of the tournament who continues to dominate the Sri Lanka national squash championship, recently winning his 12th successive men’s national title. His consistency and commitment make him a vital figure in Sri Lanka’s sporting landscape and a role model for aspiring squash players. In 2024, he earned the prestigious PSA Player of the Year award after winning five Challenger Series titles and competing in 12 championships with eight finals appearances, a career-best performance.

 

Third seed, Duncan Lee is another notable figure in Malaysian squash, with strong regional dominance and growing international experience. His recent wins at the Malaysian Nationals and South East Asian Cup signify a critical breakthrough, positioning him as a player to watch in future squash events .

 

Another top player to watch will be Marwan Asal, who has been active in several prestigious junior squash tournaments, making a name for himself with a competitive match record. In the World Junior Championship of July 2025, he reached the final and finished as the runner-up. Throughout his recent matches, the younger brother of World Squash Champion Mostafa Asal has shown great skill and competitive spirit.

 

Additionally Shamil Wakeel , Nevindu Lakman, Shariff Hakeem, Tuwin Osanda Herath, Methmal Wood, Viduranga Udantha, Matheesha Wijesekara and Tharul Pinwatta have qualified from Sri Lanka to take part in the tournament based on their PSA International ranking and recent past performance In the Women’s category top seed and World no 156, Anjali Semwal from India has participated in multiple professional squash events mostly within the PSA Tour circuit, showcasing competitive play across Asia. She reached the semi-finals of the HK Challenge Cup in Hong Kong, demonstrating resilience and skill in high-stakes games.

 

Sri Lankan National Champion , Chanithma Sinaly is the second seed in the tournament. Sinaly too has performed really well becoming Runner up at last year’s edition of Reliance PSA Championship ,a semi finalist at JSW Willingdon PSA Championhsip 2024 in India and a finalist at City Of Greater Bendigo PSA 2024 in Australia.

 

Third seed Harleein Tan is a young Malaysian squash player who has achieved success in junior international tournaments including British Junior Open, US Junior Open , Dutch Junior Open and Asian junior squash Championships.

 

The focus on PSA tournaments offers players opportunities to earn income and gain global exposure, leading to higher rankings and career advancement while conducting International tournaments in Sri Lanka promotes the country as an International sports destination in addition to providing local players obtain International exposure and ranking with ease.
